19th century Caribbean box.
A very rare rectangular box made in the Caribbean Island of Jamaica in the early part of the 19th century. Made by James Pitkin of Kingston. This prominent cabinet-maker of the time was possibly over shadowed by Ralph Turnbull 1788 - 1865. Ralph Turnbull's brothers were also involved in the cabinet-making business, Cuthbert & Thomas. No doubt being a small island collaborations took place, with these gifted craftsmen.
This very rare specimen box has the original plan which is hand written and drawn by James Pitkin of Kingston of the 30 different veneers which have been used making this box. Caribbean circa 1830.
