19th Century Azerbaijani Runner.
4.67 x 1.00 m.
Azerbaijan has a rich history of rug weaving, stretching back several centuries. The country stands at the crossroads of various cultures, and its carpets reflect this in their creativity and diversity. As such, these pieces are highly sought-after, well-known for their wide range of designs and creative use of vegetable-dyed colours.
This handsome late 19th-century example has a muted grey field, complementing the monochrome overall drawing, framed by a wide yellow border. The pattern in the central field is creatively repeated in a wide variety of natural vegetable-dyed colours. With its simple naive drawing and settled colour scheme, it lend itself equally to a contemporary or classic interior.
This lovely Azerbaijani Runner is in good practical condition for everyday use.
An attractive example, with a tribal charm to suit a variety of settings.
