18th Century Walnut Lowboy.

A Delightful Early 18th Century George I Period Walnut Lowboy, Or Side Table, Retaining Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina Throughout, With Well Figured Quarter Veneered And Feather Banded Top, Over One Long And Three Short Drawers, With Featherbanded Decoration And Original Brassware, Flanked By Attractive Fluted Canted Corners And Shaped Frieze, Raised On Elegant Cabriole Legs.

Throughout the first half of the 18th century any form of side table was generally referred to as a lowboy and always constructed from rich, attractive solid timbers and veneers due to the plentiful supply of it at the time.

This is an exceptionally nice example of its type, with attractive quarter veneered top, which is always a great sign of quality and a slightly different to normal drawer configuration below, which along with the elegant shaped freize really adds to the decorative appeal of this piece.

It has certainly aged well retaining a lovely warm colour and its original brasswear which is quite rare on an item of furniture of this age. There are of course plenty of historic lumps, bumps and scrapes and signs of age, but nothing which is out of keeping for an item this old. Indeed we would say the condition is actually very good and that clearly this walnut lowboy has been well loved, but also well used throughout its life.

As with all items which we offer for sale this walnut side table has been inspected in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained traditional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure it is in its best possible condition and ready to be placed straight into the home before being offered for sale.
