A very rare 18th Century Sicilian Polychrome Painted Parcel Gilt Commode.
Italy Sicily Circa 1750-70.
Of wonderful colour having a serpentine moulded simulated marble top above two long drawers decorated with flower and bird-filled cartouches in scroll and foliate-moulded pastiglia frames on a red ground over a conforming serpentine apron. The sides similarly painted with large flower filled cartouches with the whole raise on cabriole legs and hoofed feet.
A wonderfully decorative commode typical of Sicilian Rococo design of the second half of the 18th Century. Due to the limited output of these pieces they are rare to the market and often found in private collections.
