18th Century Period Mahogany Desk.

A George III 18th century Chippendale period writing desk.

The green leather top has recently been re-lined with blind tooling and broken gilt embossing and the desk top is ratcheted to lift up as well as to slide out to accommodate the sitter. The mahogany tambour top slide is concealed when open behind the outfitted pigeon hole interior.

The two full length oak lined drawers are well constructed with fine dove tails and figured mahogany fronts. The gilt brass handles are well cast and original as are the brass locks.

The finely tapered legs are made in the solid and have blind delicate carved spandrels to the underside of the writing desk. The tambour is figured to all sides and free standing raised on block feet.
