18th Century Mahogany Serpentine Chest.

An 18th century George III Chippendale period mahogany serpentine chest.

The figured mahogany top retains a good colour and patina above a thumbnail moulding and a concealed brushing slide.

The four oak lined graduated drawers are finely made with figured mahogany fronts and applied cockbeaded mouldings.  The graduated drawers retain the original steel locks and gilt brass escutcheons and the later handles are fitted to the original drawer holes.

The serpentine chest with blind fret Chinese Chippendale chinoiserie mouldings to the canted corners is raised on pronounced ogee bracket feet.
