A Charming Mid 18th Century Georgian Oak Dresser, Of Superbly Untouched Rich Colour And Patina, Having Original Rack With Three Fixed Shelves And Panelled Back Flanked By Elegant Shaped Ends, Over Base With Six Drawers Retaining Original Brass Swan Neck Handles And Two Fielded Panel Cupboard Doors, Raised On Original Square Stile Feet.

These days it can be quite rare to find a dresser from the 18th century which retains its rack, the majority of them having been discarded over the years for a whole variety fo different reasons. We are however particularly pleased that this one has managed to hold onto its rack, as its a lovely rack, extremely well made, extremely solid and extremely attractive.

Overall the dresser is extremely good quality, highlighted by the panelled design of its rack and the general solid feel to the piece. This can probably be explained in part by the fact it is a genuine 18th century dresser, meaning that no expense would have been spared in terms of the quality and volume of the oak used in its original contruction. By the time we get to the early 19th century some country cabinte makers had begun trying to use wood and materials more economically.

Overall it is in pretty good condition. There are of course the various old marks, scuffs, scrpes, digs and repairs which one would expect on an item of furniture which has no doubt been heavily used throughout the many hundreds of years of its life, but certainly there is nothing to worry about or off putting in that respect.

Another nice feature worth mentioning is that is still boasts its original handles and feet, something which is exceptionally rare for a dresser of this period.

As with all items which we offer for sale this oak dresser has been inspected and attended to in our workshops, by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers before being offered for sale to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home. It has also received a natural beeswax polish to bring the best out of the lovely untouched colour and patina which it boasts.

Dressers are generally regarded as freestanding, functional, statement pieces for both storage and display and they were incredibly popular in rural settings during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Almost every house would have had at least one, but some houses many, many more.
