13th Century Romanesque Marble Lions.

A rare pair of 13th century, Romanesque, marble, recumbent lions.

Italy, circa 1250.

Recumbent lions were popular in 11th-13th century Italian architecture with pairs often supporting columns in a cathedral portico, it is rare for a pair to remain together.

- The features on the faces, manes and the paws are still distinctive and full of character.
- They have developed a beautiful patina over time and exude wonderful quality and timelessness of the ancient world.
