Wyllie's Greenwich.

Greenwich Hospital (Royal Naval College) as seen from the East with the Trafalgar Tavern and the Curlew Rowing Club. Original drypoint etching, signed in pencil by the artist, William Lionel Wyllie. The son of the genre painter William Morrison Wyllie and singer Katherine Benham, William Lionel Wyllie R.A. was born in Albany Street, Deptford, close to where he would have sketched this image, July 5th, 1851.

Acknowledged as one of the leading marine artists at the beginning of the 20th century, his work is represented in the National Maritime Museum and he exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of Painters-Etchers and a whole host of other venerable institutions throughout his life. He died in London in 1931. This work within the original ebonized etching frame, 23 inches x 12.5 inches; the plate 14 in x 3.5 in.
