Great looking mid Victorian sailormade woolwork picture depicting a Royal Navy Frigate, the sails presented at an angle to indicate speed as the vessel races through a jazzy sea, the mainmast pennant streaming behind. The sails are deeply padded so that they are seen to be full of the prevailing wind and there is the unusual detail of a figurehead, the 'button' with a cross at the bow probably representing a shield.
Presented in a chunky, folksy, grained frame period to the work.
British circa 1860.
o.s: 26 inches x 21 inches s.s:19 inches x 14.5 inches.
