An Indo-Portuguese travelling box, Javanese Rosewood or similar, of wonderful quality fashioned with a wavy outline and bound with engraved silver-coloured metal at the corners and centred by a matching sunburst to the lid. (This design appears to be derived from the Jesuit sunburst usually centred with the initials IHS). Within, numerous compartments and drawers arranged over two layers, a drop down cover to a space within the lid.
Batavian, or perhaps Ceylon.
circa 1790.
