Welsh Primitive Armchair, circa 1780.  This is a rare example of a chair in this form with its construction of three legs joined by a “T” stretcher.  The single arm bow is in Ash and sits above a finely figured Elm seat above which is  a “Lobster Pot” comb back.  What is especially  unusual about this chair is the  cresting rail which is shaped to both top and lower edges, an extremely rare feature.  A chair of similar design but without the “T” Stretcher is illustrated on Page 36, Plate 2:1, in “The English Windsor Chair” by Thomas Crispin, The Bath Press, 1992.  This chair is inn original condition, of good colour, and  it is a wonderful fireside chair of elegant proportions.

Dimensions:  Height 99 centimetres, Width 62 centimetres, Depth 34 centimetres, Height to seat 37 centimetres.
