The Tray stands on four cast panel feet with gadrooned border and scroll end. The raised rim is also decorated with gadrooning, as are the handles which are attached to the main body with acanthus mouldings.

The centre of the Tray is engraved with a shield shaped Armorial, with Crest above, and banner below engraved with the motto " Ne Quid Falsi".

The centre is also engraved with "E Dono M Panchen." The Tray is in excellent condition, has a very good colour and weight.

Crouch and Hannam were specialist Tray and Salver makers of the finest quality and this piece has very crisp marks on the reverse.

The Arms, Crest and Motto are those of Woolaston, quartering Hayles, impaling Woolaston, for the Reverend Francis Hayles Woollaston, Rector of Dereham in Norfolk. He married his cousin, Caroline, in 1825.

He was the eldest son of Francis John Hyde Woolaston, Archdeacon of Essex, Prebendary of St Paul's and Jacksonian Professor of Cambridge.

He had married Francis Hayles and died in 1823. The inscription on the tray records its gift to the Reverend Francis Wollaston by the Reverend Panchen, husband of another of Francis's cousins, Mary Hyde Woolaston.
