A very fine George III Pocket Nutmeg Grater made in Birmingham in 1809 by Samuel Pemberton.
The Nutmeg Grater is of a deep broad rectangular form with cut corners. The cover and hinged base are decorated with sycamore sprig sprays on a prick dot ground, a design which was popular in the Pemberton workshops. The sides are engraved with prick dot bands and wriggle work designs.
The cover opens to reveal a steel grater and the hinged base would have been where the nutmeg would have been stored. This piece is in excellent condition and is well marked on the inside of the cover and the base.
