A very fine George III Decanter Stand made in London in 1774 by Hester Bateman.
This rare piece stands on four claw and ball feet and has a raised shaped rim decorated with applied beading interspersed with foliate motifs. The centre is engraved with a contemporary shield shaped Amorial, with Crest above. Due to its size, this piece was most likely a decanter or bottle stand, but could also be used for a sauceboat.
This piece is of a very good gauge and weight and displays a crisp set of marks. The Armorial and Crest is that as used by the Brooke family (the Crest is a Brock or Badger). They impale those of the Tucker family of Kent. Hester Bateman made very few stands, salvers and trays and examples are seldom seen.
