WILFRID GABRIEL DE GLEHN NEAC. RP. RA. (1870–1951).

Vallée de Roquefavour, near Marseilles, 1925.

Watercolour.

41 x 51 cms 161⁄8 x 201⁄8 ins.

Provenance: The Artist’s Studio Estate;

Atelier number 506.

This panoramic watercolour sketch of the Roquefavour valley was painted in 1925, during a car trip Wilfrid and Jane de Glehn took through the South of France, and most likely on the spot. He may have painted it from the nearby hilltop village of Ventabren, looking southeast into the valley below. Part of Roquefavour’s famous mid-nineteenth-century aqueduct is visible in the mid-foreground at centre left.
