Very rare if not unique oak adjustable rushlight or candle stand. Raised on a butt jointed cruciform base that has shaped ends, the wonderfully baluster turned stem has a central hole into which a one piece length of turned oak pole with a turned handle is fitted.  When closed down this handle just looks like a continuation of the stem. This section slides freely up and down to adjust the height. Originally fitted with a sprung piece of timber to hold a height, this has long gone and has instead a small metal wedge on a chain fitted many years ago which simply and unobtrusively pushes in to hold the height. The piece is unrestored, completely original and unmolested and the most fabulous colour and patina. The best and ultimate Rush Light Stand out there. Simply stunning. Circa 1700-1720.
