Statuary Marble Dancer With ‘Finger on Chin’, After Antonio Canova.
Rome 19th century.
Height: 34 ¾” (88cm).
In excellent condition and with a good original surface.
The original life size sculptures were executed between 1809 and 1818. This sculpture is one of the three versions of the Dancer that Canova created. The other two were Dancer with Hands on Hips and Dancer with Cymbals.
Dance was a favourite theme of Canovas. He was fascinated by the sculptural effects of movement and many of his works deal with the subject of Dance.
