A fine little Spar Ornament Viewer, each tiny mineral specimen with an applied number, presumably referenced on an identifying index which is now lost.

The mineral collection made large when viewed through the magnifying lens and gently illuminated in the pale light transmitted through the thinly turned alabaster case.

Probably made from alabaster mined at Challaston in Derbyshire; the minerals from the surrounding area.

Made anytime between 1830-1860.

3 inches high x 2 inches in diameter.
