Small Chinese Imari spice octagonal box and cover, 18th century, the sides of the body and lid decorated alternately with flowers, grasses and foliage or diaper patterns in iron-red, the shallow domed cover with a central panel containing peony heads and pomegranate against a ground of meandering foliage in underglaze cobalt blue and surmounted by a gilded bud-shaped finial, the interior divided into four compartments.
