Small Chinese famille rose figure of the immortal Cao Guojiu, Qianlong (1736-95), standing on an octagonal base and holding an ingot-shaped box and a writing brush.


Provenance: from the collection of Lady Ottoline and Philip Morrell, and thence by descent. Three similar figures are illustrated in Ayers, John, 'Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen' Vol I, p. 98, pl. 200-2.
