Silver Centre Seconds English Fusee Duplex.

Hallmarked London: 1848.
Diameter: 43 mm.

An unusual mid 19th Century English centre seconds duplex in a silver open face case.  Gilt three quarter plate keywind movement with fusee and chain. Harrison’s maintaining power. Engraved cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.

Duplex escapement, brass escape wheel, pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with centre seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands.  Small engine turned silver open face case with ribbed middle, wound and set through the silver cuvette, maker’s mark “JD” and number corresponding to that on the movement.

In excellent overall condition.  English fusee duplex watches with centre seconds are very uncommon.
