A good 18th century serpentine fronted mahogany chest of drawers with brushing slide, having the wonderful feature of book-matched veneered drawer fronts. The top is finely crossbanded in tulipwood and strung throughout with boxwood and ebony. The canted ends are veneered in satinwood and again strung with ebony as decoration. The gilt-brass metal handles are original. On the underside of the bottom drawer is a page from a newspaper dated July 1st 1839 - Wakefield press!
