Samuel Dixon ( Irish ) Circa 1755.
Known in the Eighteenth Century for his delicate hand in producing his speciality "embossed pictures of wild bird life" with flora. He managed to capture the imagination of the upper classes who clamoured for the artistry of his water colouring in basso-relievo (embossed papier- mache).
Listed as a picture dealer in Capel Street, Dublin, Ireland, he produced mainly sets of prints, starting at first featuring floral arrangements, following on later to copying George Edwards`s Natural History of Uncommon Birds.
This particular pair, one of a Pheasant and a Hen, the other a Rainbow Pheasant, have retained their original bright colours and are bordered by the better of all his frames, ebonised with gilt trellis work and floral decoration.
In superb condition.
