Sailors Love Token, 19th Century.

A very unusual Sailor ‘Love Token’ possibly depicting a Captain and his Lady. The surface is roughly split into three sections, one with a portrait of a Captain, the next with a portrait of a Lady and the third of possibly Diana, the Goddess of fertility. This interesting and rare piece may well have been a Sailors gift to his Captain as a good luck token on a marriage. Similar looking, but not to be confused with the ‘bugbear’ powder flasks as it has never had a spout fitted. The carving and patina are excellent. There is no damage, splits or shakes. Circa 1790-1810
