Regency Period Scrimshaw.

An early 19th century English scrimshawed sperm whale's tooth.

The standing front of the tooth engraved in a charmingly niave yet bold style with a picture of a mother and child, the young girl holding a hoop and stick. The clothes of each are finely detailed showing both the mother and child in the best of Regency fashion. The reverse with the portrait of a brig, by the same hand, flying a red ensign from astern and as a pennant from the main mast.

English circa 1825.

h:6 1/2 in x w:2 7/8 in x d:1 3/8 in.
