A rare pair of carved and polychromed angels.

Probably circa 1700 and produced in Spain or Italy. this charming pair of winged angels are shown with arms spread and holding pricket candlesticks. Considering their delicacy, there survival is extraordinary and they retain much of their original polychrome decoration.

They were part of a fine private collection of early paintings, furniture and objects put together in the middle of the last century by the owner of a major picture gallery in London and I bought them from his daughter.

They stand 19 1/2 inches high.
