Rare Pair of Antique Farahan carpets

A very rare pair of antique Farahan carpets woven in the mid 19th Century, stunning saturated ancient dyes, large scale palmette designs and vivid colours.  The famous ancient Harshang design can be seen in the main field too, which is a stylised pattern from a Crab, often seen in the borders of Caucasian rugs from Azerbaijan.  It is incredibly rare and unusual to find a pair of carpets from this region, they presumably would have been commissioned for the Western market, as their size is rare to find too, being narrower than most carpets.  Each carpet measures 325 x 174 cm / 10'8" x 5'9".

Farahan loved these rich pinkish red dyes, sage-muddy greens and pale blues, combined with a deep blue almost black in places background colour.  A lower pile height is apparent, areas of preservation/restoration have been completed extremely well by expert restorers, on this ancient pair of carpets which are over 160 years old.  Remarkable and amazing for us to have these in our collection, we are excited to offer them for sale, as they will look beautiful in the right setting.
