Rare Japanese Arita Faceted Vase, circa 1680, Lamped.

Very rare octagonal/cylindrical shape, possibly unrecorded.

Decorated with a painted panel on each side depicting different varieties of flowers on stylised rocks.

Interesting decoration on the shoulder of clear Islamic inspiration.

Very good example in perfect condition (slight yellowing and craquelure to the glaze).

A similar example (of more ordinary decoration) in the collection of Burghley House, Lincolnshire.

See: Porcelain for Palaces, p. 107 ill.55 Lamped with a brass cap on the top to preserve its integrity.
