Rare dated 1667 Birdcage Vernacular Tavern Table.

An incredible and untouched C17th Welsh oak tripod tavern/wine table. Bird cage tilt top with wonderful mini baluster turnings. The superb turned stem dated 1667 and the initials DRE stamped on the block. Original wedge to hold the top on. When removed the table can be dismantled. Rare triangular base with three original legs for stability on uneven flagstone floors. The tilt top still with it’s original iron spring catch and straps albeit strengthened with some later screws. The cockbeaded edging is fixed with early rose-head nails. The whole table being of a stunning colour and patination. A fantastic surviving piece of dated Welsh Vernacular furniture. 1667
