A truly remarkable antique Ziegler carpet, from one of the best workshops in the world in Sultanabad, Persia, with one of the rarest of main colours in golden yellow! Combined with an equally special all over lattice design, scarcely ever seen on a carpet from the Ziegler & Co workshop.   As designs usually consisted of large floral palmettes.  The pretty muted ancient dyes of pale blue, green, pink and soft reds have been used to weave the lattice pattern and sit beautifully on the golden yellow tones, the abrash (term for dye change) on this yellow colour is full of character.  As it has faded and changed over the last 130 years adding depth and more beauty.  The steel blue to dark blue border is a great balancing colour to the main field, as the contrast works so well.

Pile height is very high all over this carpet, with hardly any lower areas of wear.  This carpet has been well loved and we have restored some areas to the side areas which were a little lower.  As this carpet is an incredibly rare and exceptional piece.

Ziegler & Co a Manchester-based Swiss producer was a genius in creating the worlds most desirable and decorative carpets. Using wool from Manchester, UK he had workshops in Sultanabad and supplied Liberty and Harvey Nichols.  Ziegler & Co were instrumental in shaping how decorative carpets would be produced in Persia and what designs would be woven in Sultanabad for the next 50 years. The company's designs were essentially Western versions of finer Persian designs,  their large scale floral designs and often enormous sizes were modified to the specifications of Western retailers.  Most of the Ziegler production was shipped to New York and London.

Our home visits can be requested for anywhere in the UK, we have travelled as far as Scotland and Ireland to show our carpets in situ. Visiting our barn showroom is available Monday to Saturday and can be booked in by appointment on our website too.
