An almost square, early antique Farahan carpet with a beautifully drawn scrolling border design in varying blues, the elegant palmettes in the main field flow on top of a deep dark blue, almost black in places dye. Creating a striking ancient carpet woven around 1860-1870, rich in colour and ancient in design, a truly remarkable piece.  The brick reds in the border vary to soft reds as you work your way around, which is down to the abrash (dye change) and oxidisation to the natural dyes over the last 160 years.

Amazing square size, Fereghan or Farahan as they are often known were one of few weaving areas that produced square sizes.  Areas of low pile are visible, this ancient carpet shows mainly original fringe ties at both ends.  A few areas have been repaired, but the majority has been retained.
