A stunning and very rare natural ivory ground antique Afshar runner woven in the South-West of Persia with a beautiful array of natural colours.  This antique runner from the late 19th century has also retained its beautiful Kilim end finishings at both ends, which often gets worn away.  In great condition with a soft handle and medium high pile.  Woven on a soft wool foundation, they tend to be light to touch and come in a variety of designs.   It is rare to encounter a runner from the tribal weaving area of Afshar as they produced small rugs primarily.

Dyes are natural and full of outstanding colours produced from vegetables, beetles and plants.  These antique dyes are what make antique carpets, rugs and runners so desirable and collectable.  Just like a piece of art or antique furniture, the patina on furniture enhances the look and feel.  Ancient rugs have this characteristic too, with their natural dyes adding so much charm and warmth.  This runner is full of this, especially with the ivory natural wool as a great background canvas to the other colours.  The abstract palmettes and floral motifs are specific to Afshar designs and the minor borders can be seen on varied weavings from all over Persia.

Request a home visit to see this exceptional and rare antique Afshar runner in situ, we travel all over the UK, from Surrey to Scotland showing our carpets in customers homes.  Or purchase this runner on our website and we shall ship it straight to your door.
