A Rare and Large Pair of Florentine Cartouche-Shaped Giltwood Wall Mirrors.
Each surmounted by an elaborate pierced rocaille cresting of shells and trailing flowers. The frame waisted around the cartouche-shaped plate with stiff-leaf gesso border with rococo flourishes at the shoulders. The trefoil shaped base edge surrounded by rocaille and C-Scroll ornament with flowers.
Italy, Circa 1850.
It is rare to find a pair of Italian mirrors of this unusual and most appealing cartouche shape. This pair are further distinguished by the originality and quality of their superb gilding.
