Mid eighteenth century engraved patinated Dutch brass tobacco box, the lid with the arms of the Seven United Provences; Holland, Zeeland, Gelderland, Utrecht, Friesland, Overijssel and Groningen.
The base engraved with the lion of Holland under attack and either side heads satirical of the Catholic Church.
This box retains a rare, deep and lustrous patina, the result of neglect over a couple of centuries.
