Pair of Regency Bronze Greyhounds.
A superb pair of early 19th century bronze greyhounds mounted on ribboned campan marble plinths, possibly by Thomas Weeks.
Elegantly posed and well-modelled recumbent greyhounds raised on original marble bases, with the hounds in opposing poses: slightly turned head and crossed front paws and ears pricked portraying and conveying the inimitable characteristics of the breed.
The figures sit proudly on vibrant highly grained and veined marble blocks.
The framed dimensions below include the dogs on the marble plinths.
Thomas Weeks (1743-1834) established his museum of mechanical curiosities in Tichborne Street from 1788 until 1834 and was famous for fine and diverse objets d'art, clocks and automatons.
