A PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE ‘GU’ VASES, KANGXI (1662 – 1722)
Of quatrefoil 'gu' form, raised on a high flared foot, the tall neck with flared foliate rim, decorated in overglaze famille verte, yellow and iron red enamels, the moulded central section decorated with four quatrefoil cartouches containing flowers in flower pots reserved against a red diaper ground, set within moulded lotus petal borders to the top and bottom, the tall foot decorated with panels of floral sprays, the tall trumpet neck decorated with panels containing alternately prunus blossoms, peony, chrysanthemum, and lotus flowers, the mouth rim decorated with four floral sprays within rounded cartouches set against a red diaper pattern ground, the lower register decorated with four panels containing red floral sprays on leafy springs, the bases glazed.
