Qianlong (1736-95).
Of canted rectangular trencher form. The central well decorated with the crest of Bannerman.
With the motto ' PRO.PATRIA' with the figure of a warrior wearing wide pantaloons and holding a sword in his right hand and wearing a plumed hat.
The sides painted with sprigs of flowers and the spreading plinth with gilt and rouge de fer barbed frieze.
This is one of two Chinese services of the same date made for Alexander Bannerman of Aberdeen (1715-1782).
The Bannerman service will be published by Mrs. Howard in Chinese Armorial Porcelain, vol. III.
