White enamelled tubular steel frame with Naval linen covered loose seat cushions
France, circa 1950s
Very much in the post-war Utilitarianist manner, a style emplified by designers such as Marcel Breuer and Rene Herbst, where ornamental decoration was completed abondoned for the new methods and materials of mass production. Metal was a readily available material and the chair's form is dictated by the tubular-orientation of modular-produced steel piping
