Despite having been defaced by iconoclasts, this stunning pair of 14th/15th century limestone figures depict the Angel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary. Gabriel is shown kneeling and holding a banner whilst Mary is shown sitting with her hands in the praying position. The integral bases are decorated with shields and blind Gothic tracery. They were almost certainly defaced in the 16th or 17th century which suggests that they might be English rather than French. Despite their losses they are very rare and beautiful works of art. They can be sold either with or without the purpose made painted stands.
Dimensions
The figures are 30 inches high and the stands are 36.5 inches high.Stock number
