The Sauceboats stand on three finely modelled hoof feet attached to the main body with shell mouldings. The large main bodies have a beautifully shaped rim and are engraved with a contemporary Armorial, with Crest above, all surrounded by a Rococo foliate spray, scroll and shell cartouche.
The flying scroll handle is decorated with leaf capping and the bases of both Sauceboats are very well marked. Pairs of sauceboats, from this English Provincial centre of silver production, are scarce especially in this excellent condition.
Isaac Cookson was a quality silversmith who occupied the prestigious position of Warden of the Goldsmiths Company no fewer than twelve times. The Arms and Crest are those of the Collingwood family of County Northumberland.
Height, to the top of the handle: 4.75 inches, 11.88cm.
Length: 7.45 inches, 18.63 cm.
