Murano Glass Violet White Stripe.
Murano: Mid-Century Modern, violet stripe vase.
A virtuoso display of striped ornamentation within scallop shapes to create the visual effect of relief within a sculptural form.
Italy, circa 1950.
Some of the most innovative and beautiful glass designs were produced in Murano in the mid-20th century.
This beautiful vase is defined by its distinctive, large semi-circular lip which balances with the fully extended body creating a sculptural form to enhance the virtuoso display of striped ornamentation suggesting this was conceived as an art piece.
The scallop-shape or looped arrangement of the stripes creates the visual effect of deep relief as well as containers to showcase different styles of striped ornamentation.
The true colour of the violet to the naked eye is difficult to photograph and it is not possible to capture precisely.
