Paul-Emile Leon Perboyre was born at Horbourg near Colmar in the Alsace region of France. He studied art under Leon Bonnat (1833-1922), a leading portraitist of the day. Perboyre starting exhibiting at the Paris Salon from 1881 and in 1909 became a member of the Society of French Artists. He also exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery and the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art. Perboyre specialised in military paintings with many of his works depicting scenes of the Napoleonic wars and First World War such as this fine example.
Presentation: The work is housed in a new, English made gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
Condition: As with all of our original antique oil paintings, this work is offered in ready to hang gallery condition, having been professionally cleaned, restored and revarnished.
