A Meissen teabowl and saucer,

Circa 1740.

The exterior of the teabowl decorated with a continuous romantic scene with figures beside red cliffs, a lone horseman, and deserted castle.

The interior decorated with a couple underneath overhanging red rockwork and landscape with a small chapel.

The saucer painted with a horseman and followers against the backdrop of the sea and ruins of a fortress. Within concentric iron-red line bands and Laub-und-Bandlewerk borders to the rim.

Underglaze blue crossed swords to the base. Gilder’s mark 5Z to base of teabowl and saucer. Impressed Dreher's mark 52 on base of saucer and impressed Dreher's mark 2 on base of teabowl.
