A RARE MEDIEVAL ENGLISH WALNUT CLAMP FRONT BOARD AND STILE CHEST OF LARGE PROPORTIONS. CIRCA 1400.
THE SINGLE BOARD WALNUT TOP WITH HEAVY IRON HINGES, ABOVE A FRONT OF A SINGLE PLANK WITH LARGE IRON LOCKPLATE. THE CONSTRUCTION CONSISTS OF FOUR WIDE STILES CARRIED DOWN TO THE FLOOR AS LEGS INTO WHICH LARGE BOARDS ARE TENENED AND PEGGED TO FORM THE BACK, FRONT AND SIDES. WONDERFUL DARK RICH PATINA. AN IMPRESSIVE PIECE OF ENGLISH MEDIEVAL FURNITURE ,REPUTEDLY FROM A NORFOLK CHURCH.
