Marion Dorn's 'Magnolia' design for Edinburgh Weavers was launched in 1936 in a colour scheme of mainly pastels. The screen-printed velvet panel depicts a repetitive pattern of a large flower head on a loosely drawn stem with leaves, overlaid with patches of subtle colour as if applied by generous brush strokes. The velvet panel is mounted on a stretcher and in excellent condition.
For a reference to this design see Jackson, Lesley, Alastair Morton and Edinburgh Weavers. Visionary Textiles and Modern Art. London, V&A Publishing, 2012. Plate 135 on page 94 shows an illustration of the design in a different colour scheme of very soft pastelly pinks, which is in the V&A Collection.
