A magnificent & very unusual George III Tea/Water Urn made in London in 1774 by Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp

The Urn stands on a square pedestal detachable foot which is decorated with two beaded bands. Each side displays an unusual cast oval floral medallion, which is bolted in place.

The foot is attached to the large vase shaped body by a bayonet fitting and this piece is very well made. The top of the main body is decorated with beading and has two flying scroll handles, attached to the main body with a raying floral moulding and has an ebonised closing mechanism.

The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a tied blue bell drop and crossed branch cartouche. The domed, pull-off, cover terminates in an acorn finial and has a beaded rim. The quality of design and production of this piece is exceptional and the urn is in excellent condition.

The foot and the main body have a full crisp set of hallmarks and the cover is marked with a maker's mark and sterling mark. This piece would make a considerable statement on a side table, and is also mounted on a wooden plinth. It is only the second time we have seen this specific design. 

The Arms are those of a Lady or Heiress of the Clutton family.
