This could be the painting entitled 'The Hat with the Rose', which Fergusson exhibited in 1908 at the Baillie Galeries. Fergusson enjoyed painting women and made many portraits of young women in lavishly trimmed hats.
This portrait is reminiscent of Fergusson's early, highly painterly style, in which he endeavoured, a la Hals, to arrest a fleeting moment of expression.
