A Louis XVI Carved Giltwood and Blue-Painted Console Table Attributed to George Jacob. Circa 1785.

With demi-lune bleu turquin marble top above a panelled frieze carved with foliate scrolling flower blossoms, hung with bold floral swags, raised on spiral-fluted tapering legs on toupee feet.

George Jacob

Jacob was one of the very few Louis XVI chair makers who both designed and carved side tables. The attribution is based to him because of a table with similar carved swags of flowers on a table illustrated in French Art of the 18th Century page 149 Illustration D

Provenance

The collection of Edmond de Rothschild

Didier Aaron Paris
