A Fine Louis XV Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Petite Kidney Shaped Desk, by François Linke.

Stamped to the bronze rim ‘LINKE’.  

This unusual kidney shaped desk or Bureau Rognon has a shaped top finely inlaid with radiating bois de violette and satine parquetry inlay, banded in gilt-bronze.  Below are three drawers, the smaller side drawers with naturalistic foliate handles the centre drawer with an unusual and finely cast scallop shell escutcheon.  The desk is raised on slender cabriole legs with with foliate cast gilt-bronze clasps and feet.

François Linke (1855 - 1946) was the most important Parisian cabinet maker of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and possibly the most sought after cabinet maker of his period.
